The primary responsibilities of the Fair Housing Testing & Investigations Coordinator include, but are not limited to:
Tester Recruitment, Training and Retention:
- Conduct community outreach and related strategies to provide information about fair housing rights, gain support for the fair housing testing program, and recruit fair housing testers
- Set up and conduct fair housing trainings, utilizing approved methodologies
- Develop and implement initiatives that engage and otherwise encourage tester retention
Test coordination:
- Develop and investigate individual and systemic cases of housing discrimination and coordinate systemic and complaint-based tests of residential real-estate transactions
- Develop testing strategy and select appropriate testers for each fair housing test
- Employ various methods to assist in determining at what locations to conduct fair housing tests, including scouting and research
- Create test assignments, provide appropriate and thorough instructions for each test, and review with the testers
- Provide clear and accurate directions for testers when necessary, utilizing maps or other sources of information
- Provide information and guidance to testers during a test assignment as needed
- Analyze test reports, debriefing notes, and other information to determine whether there is evidence of illegal housing discrimination
- Prepare test review reports based on test analysis
- Recommend follow-up activities for further investigation, where appropriate
- Maintain detailed case records; prepare and present accurate and reliable summaries of findings, recommendations and relevant statistical data
- Work with the appropriate enforcement agencies and legal services organizations to enhance responses to discrimination complaints
- Keep informed regarding federal, state, and local housing rules and regulations, developments, and court cases
Complaint Intake
- Receive and record calls from HOPE’s Housing Discrimination Hotline
- Conduct intake of complaints of housing discrimination
- Provide information and referrals in response to housing related requests for assistance
- Provide fair housing counseling, where appropriate
- Maintain log of calls received and services provided
Education and Outreach:
Community outreach to support organizational education and outreach and training efforts
Other projects and activities, as determined by the President & CEO or Vice President
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree (BA or BS) and at least two years of experience in community education, community organizing, housing advocacy, or a related field
- Passionate commitment to ending discrimination, particularly in the context of housing
- Ability to strategize, plan and implement programmatic initiatives
- Outstanding project management skills; ability to set priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Thorough case preparation and record-keeping for reporting to government and other entities
- Experience in working effectively and respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds; ability to work independently and collaborate with a team
- Ability to empower others, engage in continuous learning initiatives
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Proven effectiveness with facilitation and training for varied audiences
- Ability to conduct property searches and other research via the Internet
- Ability to operate a personal computer using standard or customized software applications appropriate to assigned tasks; proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and Adobe
- Available to work some evenings, weekends
- Experience in marketing and advertising is a plus, but not required
- English/Spanish bilingual is a plus, but not required
Compensation
Pay: $45,000 to 47,000 per year DOE

Eligible for all applicable benefits upon satisfactory completion of the initial 90-day probationary period, including earned annual leave, sick leave, and paid holidays.
